Global Extravaganza: Embassy Delights in DC

“The gladdest moment in human life, me thinks, is a departure into unknown lands.”

Sir Richard Francis Burton, British explorer and writer.

Event Highlight: CityFest DC (August 19th, 2023)

Located in Southwest DC, the Culture House stood mighty and tall bedazzling the local community with an array of painted colors on the former church building. The venue was alive with vendors setting up shop, food trucks parking, and a curious crowd brewing for CityFest DC. Reputed to be DC’s largest creator festival, CityFest DC features local vendors, artists, DJs, food vendors, and far more in and outside of the building. We had the privilege of attending the event and also meeting up with one of DC’s most underrated creators Curious Caravan who was also curious about the event.

We were amazed at the sheer creativity when it came to the art colors on the Culture House. It was like Picasso himself had rolled up with his board of colors and decided to go crazy on the interior and exterior walls. Once we got used to the sheer activity of the buzzing crowd, both of us went inside and examined the multiple goods that these DC vendors had. We are were amazed by the entrepreneurship spirit that folks had from 3D printed art pieces to entire fashion clothing lines. There was also a ton of food that we sampled which was amazing in itself.

Check out CityFest DC for next year, the Culture House, and Curious Caravan’s entire resources for finding off the beaten path, unexpected activities in DC.

Cultural Center Dive: Congress Heights Arts and Culture Center

The Congress Heights Art and Culture Center (CHACC) is dedicated to exposing, inspiring, and educating the youth and adults to the rich arts and cultural opportunities of Wards 7 and 8 from a historical and modern perspective. The CHACC was established to explore the arts and culture of people related to the African Diaspora and communities of African-Americans who reside east of the Anacostia River.

At the same time, the CHACC represents a home full of legacy being the former residence and business space of the Executive Director’s father. This arts and culture center serves as an amazing example of generational success, cultural legacy, and black ownership. Among its many uses, the CHACC features rotating art exhibits, classes as well as workshops, and “paint-n-slips” events for kids to adults.

Nestled in Congress Heights, the CHACC is located at 3200 MLK Avenue, SE Washington, DC 20032 with the following times: Monday-Friday(11AM - 6PM), Saturday (11AM - 2PM) , and Sunday closed.
