Event Highlight: Mid-Autumn Night Market (September 20th , 2023)

On a cool mid-Autumn night, cries of laughter and good conversation were heard on the Hi-Lawn rooftop of Union Market. The Mid-Autumn Night Market organized to look like a Hong Kong Night Market was in full swing as food stalls were getting busy selling their dishes to an eager crowd. We visited the Hi-Lawn rooftop with our good friend Curious Caravan and coworkers from our day job who were also interested in the event. We were surprised at how much interest there was from the general pubic.

It was a fine night as cooler temperatures prevailed with a gentle breeze that made the display lanterns jangle back and forth. We had the opportunity to try out various delicacies including moon cakes, a Chinese bakery product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Chatting with strangers was also quite pleasant as everyone gathered around the high tables to eat and converse.

The night ended with several performances including a theatre company that was performing the Dancing Dragon. It was similar to what we had seen during the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration at the National Museum of Asian Art. Two operators in a dragon with one controlling the head and eye movements along with the other controlling the bottom end. Stilts are used to raise the dragon up and down along with LED lights serving as eyes. Thank you to Hi-Lawn for sponsoring the event!
