Do you want to be an Ambassador?

Fun fact: It takes 15-20 hours to do everything related to the Embassy Life in DC project from writing the newsletter to social media.

Following the requests from a couple of readers, we decided to go ahead and set up a Patreon for the Embassy Life in DC project. Let us be clear: subscribing to the Patreon is not obligatory in any way.

Subscribed readers will still have access to the newsletter and all of its features. The Patreon is for those that just wish to support the newsletter one step further beyond. We also got creative with it as well since it is going to add a more personal touch to the project.

For $5 a month, you can join our exalted Ambassador Tier to become an Ambassador of the Embassy Life in DC project. Not only are you supporting the newsletter, you also get access to exclusive benefits:

  • Early access to digital products (i.e. cultural guides)

  • Weekly shoutouts on our Instagram story

  • Weekly mentions on the newsletter issues

  • Thank you messages from the founder of Embassy Life in DC

  • Personal roundup of favorite events of the week

  • Book recommendations from our list

  • That warm, fuzzy feeling of supporting a DC creator

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and we will keep adding more and more benefits as we grow in time. This is our first time doing something like this so please have patience as we learn how to navigate this new world.

But most of all, we wanted to thank everyone for supporting the Embassy Life in DC project with your continued support! If you’re interested in signing up for a Patreon membership, feel free to click the button below!

Event Highlight: Artisan Caribbean Event (November 9th )

Organized by Global Couture U.S., this fashion show was held at the Colombian Ambassador’s Residence in Dupont Circle on a rainy afternoon. It was our first time visiting the deceptively large building as we circled the perimeter of the residence confused on where to enter. Once we made our way into the building, we were stunned to see a fancy interior complete with multiple floors, various rooms, vaulted ceilings, and a jardin or outside patio strewn with lights.

This fashion show showcased 4 designers from the Caribbean region and beyond, each complete with their own styles and themes. For example, we had high couture designers from Puerto Rico Gantier and Berrios make an appearance to artists from Ghana, Africa. We sat in the back of the room on purpose to be closer to the catwalk where the models were walking by. Our trusty Google Pixel 7 Pro phone revealed later on amused models looking at our camera as we attentively took hundreds of photos.

The night was abuzz with conversations about fashion in multiple languages as the designers discussed their motivations behind their unique styles. We received an education in fashion design all night which you could argue makes us a potential fashion consultant! Jokes aside, a special thank you to Raiza Antonia Gonzalez for inviting us to the event and the one on Saturday as well.
