Event Highlight: Umbrella Art Fair (Saturday, November 18th )
Nestled in the back of Union Market, we eagerly crunched the remaining fall leaves to the Umbrella Art Fair on a warm Saturday. Showcasing more than 150 artists over three days, the Umbrella Art Fair was open to the public with people streaming in and out of different rooms. Funny enough, the Vintage Market next door was also happening at the same time. That required a $5 ticket to enter though which we did not feel like paying.
The range of artwork was stellar which put us in DC’s art scene full of global artists and makers. We saw massive murals on the sides of walls all the way to the most miniscule of aesthetic designs. A lot of the art was also for sale which prompted onlookers to inquire about meeting the artists themselves. Outside, bands were gearing up to perform music in front of an ever growing crowd.
According to the Umbrella Art Fair website, the term “Umbrella” is a declaration of artistic independence and a breaking away from the mundane. It also provides a space for artists and creative entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their works to the public. You can check out more information about the Umbrella Art Fair.
