The JICC staff will be presenting an introductory lesson on the Japanese art of calligraphy using both video and hands on training.     • Description: After dealing in mostly Latin tropical styles for over a decade, with the psychedelic cumbia of his band Chicha Libre in particular, Brooklyn–based Olivier Conan now leads Combo Daguerre, a group that performs original French tunes with a psychedelic edge and a mostly Latin crew.

  4. Integration without Identification Lecture: NBC TV, Leontyne Price and Opera Casting in the Civil Rights Era (7PM - 8PM) (FREE!)

    • Description: This lecture by Danielle Ward-Griffin, assistant professor of musicology at Rice University, examines television and its influence on opera casting practices during the early civil rights movement. She traces how the NBC’s color-blind “Integration without Identification” policy was praised for eliminating stereotypes and hiring Black performers in its prestige arts programs

This webinar will explore the ideological underpinnings of Iran’s support for regional extremism, internal dynamics within the Islamic Republic, and the implications for the West.

    • Description: In 2013, Hong Sangsoo began to shift the focus of his films from bungling male protagonists to the women they haplessly pursue. In this romantic chamber piece, a film student named Haewon (Jung Eun-chae) falls into a depression and seeks solace in her ex-lover, a married film professor, played by the late Lee Sun-kyun (Parasite).
