International Embassy and Cultural Events in Washington DC (April 10th - April 16th)
Embassy Life in DC Newsletter #8
↞ Rewinding the Week (April 3rd - April 9th) ↞
This week was full of things to do from exploring the cultural side of Flamenco dancing all the way to an awesome all-day event held by the Cherry Blossom Festival over the weekend. I feel as if the city has more and more to do with each passing week as we fully explore what the spring season means for the city of Washington D.C.
It is sometimes difficult to balance one side of actually working with my day job with the other side of exploring all these events, documenting them, and providing a list for the entire community to enjoy. However, I am finding a balance between everything the longer I do this!
Event Highlight: Songbyrd Performance: Ron Gallo and John Roseboro (April 7th)
Prior to coming to DC, I must admit I never went to a lot of concerts (probably because I was not exposed to a lot of them growing up overseas). However, DC has a such unique music culture in the form of indie bands, I had to at least give it a try. For those of that do not know, the Songbyrd Music House is an entertainment venue near Union Market which features a lot of bands that come to the city to perform. It is a stylish venue that has a modern vibe to it and is almost guaranteed to be packed with a lot of enthusiastic people. The crowds definitely give off a lot of energy with good music.
Opening the night was John Roseboro and his band with a series of jazzy songs combined with an indie style. I found it fascinating when the band members mixed an array of saxophone and trumpet while John was singing. The energy of the crowd grew as the songs carried on throughout the night. Once John Roseboro and company had finished, Ron Gallo and his band finished off the night with a series of loud hits. Ron’s choice of songs ranged from classic rock all the way to melancholic sentiment as a lot of his words were critiques of the world that we live in today. Take your pick: politics, climate change, injusitce, etc.
Overall, it was an awesome series of performances, and you can find the artists as well as Songbyrd down below:
