International Embassy and Cultural Events in Washington DC (April 17th - April 23rd)

Embassy Life in DC Newsletter #9

Rewinding the Week (April 10th - April 16th) ↞

This week was full of concerts that I visited with a lot of musical talent from the Spanish embassy to film festivals on the weekend! The irony is that the embassies themselves this week were a little quiet, however, the embassy of Malawi event is coming up which I am excited for!

Event Highlight: Karlsruhe Concert Duo Performance (April 13th)

The Karlsruhe Concert Duo was founded in 1999 by cellist Reinhard Armleder and pianist Dagmar Hartmann with an intense combination of a kindred musicality, affinity, and interaction of both instruments. Their success is not only well known in Germany but also internationally including the United States. I had the fortune of listening to 7 pieces of classical music ranging from Ludwig van Beethoven to Astor Piazzolla throughout the night. Each piece of music carried a different mood from somber to overly joyous. The duo worked well together synchronizing every stroke of the cello to every key of the piano. Quite simply, it is easy enough to spot why they are so well received domestically and internationally on the musical stage.

The German-American Heritage Foundation and The United Church/Die Vereinigte Kirche co-hosted the duo at said church. I had never visited this church before previously so it was interesting to see the interior. It easily reminded me of a few European churches back home in France from my childhood that I explored while visiting family. Overall, it was a joyous occasion and beautiful concert! You can find more information if curious about the Karlsruhe Concert Duo down below:
