Cultural Center Deep Dive: Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC)
The past year has taught us a lot about where the international embassy and cultural events occur in the DC area. Here is a secret: cultural centers. The cultural centers are the public face essentially of the embassies when it comes to promoting their countries to DC denizens. The Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC) offers an enriching experience once you visit into the fascinating world of Japanese culture, art, and history.
As the literal gateway to Japan in DC, a visitor can immerse themselves in the richness of Japanese culture from traditional arts to modern pop culture phenomena. The JICC regularly hosts free exhibitions that showcase various aspects of Japan’s technological innovations to artistic achievements. We had the privilege of attending the “Chanoyu Culture, Invitation to Tea” exhibit focusing on tea ceremonies from Japan and the tranquility aspects behind it.
In addition, the JICC features workshops and events revolving around lectures on different subjects that can cater to a wide variety of interests. These events offer opportunities to network and interact with scholars and artists who provide valuable perspectives on Japan. Finally, if you are planning a trip to Japan, the JICC can be a valuable source of information for travel tips and advice. Check out the JICC on their website and social media if you are interested in learning about Japan and Japanese culture.
